Hounslow Community Foodbox
Jain association, Oshwal Shakti, gives £5,000 to support FoodBox
Hounslow FoodBox has been given a donation of £5,000 from the Oshwal Association UK West - Shakti Centre, which is run by the Jain community in Hounslow.
The giant cheque was presented to Brentford & Isleworth MP Ruth Cadbury on Friday 21 October by Oshwal Association UK president, Rumit Shah, West Area Chair, Shejal Shah, Vice Chair, Chunilal P Shah and Treasurer, Hiteshree Shah.
The Hounslow FoodBox, and its many volunteers and supporters, which has been helping people in need throughout the borough since 2012, was delighted to receive the funds from The Oshawal Shakti Centre which has been a long term supporter.
Its members, many of whom were present at the presentation, have been shopping for food which they personally donate and deliver to the FoodBox Community Centre in Brentford. This cheque for £5000 is in addition to their year-round support.
While presenting the cheque, Rumit Shah said that the FoodBox does terrific work and that it was a privilege to work with them. Ms Cadbury said it was a pleasure to be at the centre to celebrate the support that the Jain community consistently provides. Corinna Smart, FoodBox chair, added her thanks for the Oshwal Association – West Area’s generosity.
At the same time as the FoodBox was receiving its cheque, £5000 was presented to Andrew Wilson on behalf of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, an organisation dedicated to preserving and encouraging diverse wildlife species.
Rumit Shah explained that the ethos of Jainism is to help alleviate poverty, support the animal world, and reject violence.
