Hounslow Community FoodBox Volunteers rewarded with a Glorious Day on the River

Almost 50 Hounslow FoodBox volunteers and supporters boarded MS Golden Salamander at Chiswick Pier on Tuesday 27^th August. On a super-sunny afternoon the group was treated to a magical cruise up the Thames to Westminster Pier and back. This wonderful trip was generously donated by Chiswick Pier Trust – supporters of FoodBox. Skipper Adrian gave a fascinating commentary on various landmarks along both sides of the river but drew gasps of delight when he pointed out a seal in the river near Putney.

The cruise got off to an excellent start thanks to the Mayor of Hounslow – Cllr Karen Smith – at the pier to wave everyone off.

Colin Winchester, Trustee of Chiswick Pier Trust said "At Chiswick Pier Trust we encourage local residents and community organisations to enjoy what The Thames has to offer. We were delighted to be able to give the hard working volunteers from Hounslow Community FoodBox who provide such an excellent and much needed service the opportunity of a river trip to Westminster from Chiswick Pier as an appreciation of their contribution to our local society.”

In a statement, Honourable Alderwoman Corinna Smart Chair on behalf of the Trustees at the FoodBox said “It was very generous of the Chiswick Pier Trustees to offer this fantastic trip for our wonderful volunteers at Hounslow Community FoodBox & for our delightful Mayor Cllr Karen Smith seeing them off on their trip was the cherry on the cake! Thanks to all involved in the arrangements to make this happen.”

FoodBox Operations Manager Sunny Kharbanda added ‘We are so grateful for all the support FoodBox receives from so many different parts of the community. This generous show of appreciation for the work that FoodBox does was hugely enjoyed and appreciated by everyone on board, and by those who had other commitments on the day’.
