FoodBox named as UWL’s Volunteering Organisation of the Year

As demand for food banks soars across the city, volunteers from the University of West London have pledged to continue to support hundreds of families in need through FoodBox.

Hounslow Herald reported this June that Hounslow Community FoodBox has been named as the University's Volunteering Organisation of the Year, as it continues to deliver emergency food for residents experiencing hardship, after seeing a surge in demand for services since the outbreak of Covid-19.

After providing support over the past two years, UWL’s volunteer team will continue to work closely with FoodBox as community helpers continue to do their bit: unloading and sorting through vanloads of food ready to be collected and delivered to families in need.

Mariana Rocha, UWL Volunteering and Engagement Manager, said: “Once we started offering support to Foodbox it was immediately apparent how crucial the work being done by so many committed volunteers was, and we saw first-hand the difference that a few extra pairs of hands could make.”

“We are committed to making a difference in our communities and hope that by continuing to offer whatever help we can in time, donations and resources to such an impactful organisation, many more families will be able to access the services they need.”
