The Hounslow Community Foodbox needs YOU!

03-04-2013

A new food bank scheme called Hounslow Community FoodBox, which will provide emergency supplies for local residents in crisis, is in need of 50 volunteers to help run this valuable service.

The Hounslow Community Foodbox is recruiting for helpful, reliable, personable and happy individuals who enjoy working as part of a team and are looking to get involved with a new and exciting project. This opportunity will provide volunteers with full training, a chance to develop skills and work experience and to be part of a team providing valuable help to those in crisis in their community. With eight excellent volunteers on board the Foodbox has already held two successful collection days.

The idea for Hounslow Community FoodBox has been developed by the London Borough of Hounslow and Hounslow Tenants and Residents Associations. The aim of the project is to involve residents and local groups in working together to prevent and relieve poverty, as well as create new employment and work experience opportunities.

The ASDA superstore in Hounslow is the main partner for the service and will provide a collection point for shoppers to donate non-perishable items.

Hounslow Council, TRAs and local groups working with those in need, will help to identify families and other residents in crisis and in need of emergency food.

Distribution of the non-perishable food boxes will begin in May and will work on a voucher system, with recipients being given vouchers by FoodBox Approved Referrers which they will be able to exchange for a FoodBox.
